Trail Description
About this trail
From parking area ride west on frontage rd. 1 mi. Here you will see sign for Troy's. Begin climbing up on narrow technical singletrack skirting Salt Creek below. @ 2.3 mi. is the Kokopelli Tr. jct. stay left. Riding on some exposed sections above the Colorado River requires concentration as the stunning views surrounding demand attention as well. Take in the scenery a moment and prepare for a technical climb up to Troy's/Lion's jct. 5 miles. Turn around at jct. for a return trip on Troy's back to car or......... right onto Lion's and out to the Kokopelli Trail area loops and ride until you want to head back to the car via Lion's all the way down to frontage rd. left to car.

Review: Rode this as part of a bigger loop from Mary's - did Mary's, Lions, Troy Built. Not nearly as fun as other trails in the area, although far less crowded. Riding from Lions we took a right and climbed up a road, then went down a steep road (which would suck riding up) to the 70 parking area, so doing all this in a counterclockwise direction. After all the dirt road riding, the singletrack was relativley fun, but it's not very flowy and it feels like you're going up the entire time. Plus, you're protected from the river, so it's much hotter on this loop than on Lions/Mary's. Just an OK trail, way less crowded than the Loma ones, but not a great trail.

Review: To avoid the crowds, I parked at the Mack exit lot, then rode back east 1/2 mile on the frontage road and accessed the trails there. Connected Steve's, Lion, and Troy Built for a 12 mile ride with no one around. Lions is super fun, and the descent down Troy Built is in great shape.

Review: Not my favorite of the Kokopelli system. We rode it when it was hot and there was no relief. Pretty technical and challenging. If you haven't ridden Fruita before. Start with Mary's and Horsethief first.

Review: Awesome trail with a little bit of everything to keep you on your toes. We rode it as suggested and it flowed nice. It was 95 degrees at the end of the trail so we bailed out and took a left which is a short cut on Lions Loop back to the car.

Review: This is a great trail, but no better than any other in the Koko/Loma exit area. The area in the middle is best, but each end is less interesting and the North/West end loses all that cool scenery you get from other trails in the area. If you've got the legs to ride the whole network or have already ridden everyting else, then do this--if you're just passing through and can't do it all, stick with the more famous trails in the area. The best part of this ride is that the Mary's Loop/Horsethief crowds don't generally wander over here.

Review: Awesome trail that doesn't see much traffic. Excellent downhill section at the start (if riding clockwise), flowy/fast flat section, nice up/down riding along hillside on the westend.

Review: Sweet trail. Technical and scenic. Best ridden from Lion's Loop but equally challenging either direction.

Similar Trail: Mary's Loop, Lion's Loop, Handcuffs, Horesthief Bench
