Trail Description
About this trail
In 2005, TREC partnered with the Effingham County Board to complete a master plan for a recreation trail system in Effingham County, which was funded through a $20,000 grant awarded by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

After information was collected and a study was conducted, a plan was created to develop a trails program that would include 30 miles of free access bicycling and walking trails in the county, which would in turn link smaller communities in the county together by an alternative route of travel geared toward bikers and hikers.

Since the time of the initial study in 2005, TREC has completed the first phase of its project, which opened nearly three miles of recreational trails for public use from U.S. 40 to West Evergreen Avenue and from that portion of the trail to Nazarene Church Road. TREC continues to support the construction of additional trails to extend the first phase of the project.

Review: This is a nice paved trail. It is hilly but there is very little overall elevation change and nothing technically challenging. There is a cool bridge crossing and a switchback ramp (that you aren't supposed to ride, but really...) and other good scenery. If you want to be more adventurous and have some more challenging fun, keep your eye out for old overgrown utility or access roads. These are dirt and some of them get really steep and can be challenging. The terrain around the paved path is awesome and could be developed into some great mountain bike trails.

Review: Pleasant fully paved wide trail suitable for the usual multi-use activities. Located in mature woods which provides good protection from excess sun and heat but also blocks the wind which can be a mixed benefit. Half of the trail is poorly designed for drainage so several locations will have occasional water issues. Very flat trail with limited elevation challenges.

Review: This is a fairly new Greenway/Multi-Use trail in Effingham. It is continuing to grow and will eventually cover the whole county. It is a completely paved path so no worries there. There are a couple climbs that will give a little hard breathing but nothing to really push you. This is a great trail to go out and enjoy some fresh air. If your looking for a challenge or a great skill builder this isn't it. But if you want to enjoy the scenery and enjoy fresh air hit it up if your in the area.
