Trail Description
About this trail
With two trail ratings (Blue and Red) it is compatible with both beginner and seasoned riders. Following the blue arrows provides a great cross country experience with only nominal challenges and always a bypass for anything a beginner rider might find beyond their skills. The optional red trails (EKG, Roller Coaster, and Fun Town) offer significantly more challenging features. EKG in particular, is aptly named for the cardio workout you will endure while traversing it. Home to the River Legacy River Rats (join our Facebook page), this trail is very well maintained and uniquely located in a wilderness area located in the middle of the Dallas/Fort Worth area. This trail is a popular skills builder but is also popular for more advanced riders looking for excellent cross country "speed and flow". The advanced sections like EKG draw recreational and race oriented riders seeking a serious workout and training opportunity. Come out and check out this trail, I promise you will return time and again.

Q: how long does it usually take trail to dry after a storm like we had last nite? -kchockejr

A: The trail runs at a low elevation right next to the Trinity River so the water table is quite high. There are near-permanent bogs adjacent to the trail in some of its sections. These factors cause it to take some time to reopen after a significant rain. Check the DORBA website for up to date status of the trail.

Review: Just getting back into riding and my brother is just getting into it. This was a perfect place to get a taste. The beginner is as said before very flat and hard pack, the EKG does need a lot of momentum kept up to make it back up the other side of some climbs.
Also, I've ridden a lot of harder trails that are much better kept. There were so many jutting roots that I found my self slowing way down just to manage. This for me took away some fun. But for others may add to the technical aspect of it. I did like the park as a whole because we were able to bring my wife along and she put some miles on the road bike down the cement path. I will definitely be checking out other places though hopefully with more of a downhill feel. But great beginner trails for newbies

Review: The Mountain biking scene at river legacy is sadly gone now and all of the trails have been marked off and are completely overgrown. I was disappointed when I went there and found this out, there still is some riding in small side trails along the cement path. Watch out for dirt sections that look like steep dropoffs because they fall about thirty feet straight into the river bank or shallow water. Basically all that still exists is a few small dirt paths, miles of cement path, and some rocks that are fun to session.

Review: Don't listen to this review. River Legacy is very much still a trail it and everything is still rideable, but it has just been closed for a while due to the heavy rains last fall.

Review: River Legacy was the trail I cut my teeth on when I first got into trail riding. As you'd expect, it has a special place in my heart, but as I rode more trails and gained more experience, it quickly got overshadowed.

RL is 10 miles of mostly flat terrain with lots of hardpack. There is very little climbing or elevation change on the whole trail (save for the "EKG" section), and no real downhill flow to speak of. The big appeal of this trail is that it's a beginner friendly place that you can ride on an entry level bike. EKG (one of two "expert" level loops on the trail) is like a big pump track and requires you keep your momentum going to get the most fun out of it. The other expert area is "Fun Town" which is like a beginner's "free-ride" area. It has a few easy dirt jumps and a few wooden TTF's that don't carry a lot of risk. The last three loops (the northern side of the trail, everything after fun town) is all very flat & winding beginner xc action.

This isn't a destination trail for DFW, but it's a great trail if you live in the area or just want a fun ride without a lot of demanding climbs. Beginners will want to skip EKG & Fun Town, while experienced riders may want to just skip everything past Fun Town and just ride the south side of the trail a second time.

Review: This trail is a good place for beginners to learn some skills. They recently added the EKG loop(intermediate) which goes through a swampy area and is very hilly and flowy. Signage on the trails is very good. Overall a great trail for beginners but a little tame for most riders.

Review: Nicely maintained trail, and great for beginners (skipping the EKG loop), as well as seasoned riders looking for a cardio ride. Excellent signage. EKG loop aside, nothing technical here, but very nice flow with sweeping turns that allow you to test your tire's cornering traction. It's like a cleaner, not as tight, version of LB Houston. A nice easy two or three rounds make a nice workout.

For more experienced riders, there's the EKG loop. Not really "technical", as in rock gardens or root stair cases, but plenty of steep short climbs and descends. Some very steep. Control is the name of the game. Several roller coasters with opportunity for some air time with enough speed. The EKG loop is near the start of the trail. I think the best way to ride River Legacy is to skip EKG and ride the other loops and then finish with a round on the EKG loop. Best for last kinda thing. After EKG, you can either make another full round of the loops, use use the bypasses for a quick ride back to the parking lot.

Review: Great ride. Great for a beginner who wants to learn without difficult obstacles and for the experienced rider who wants a few technical challenges.

Review: I'm going to be doing a series of reviews on trails that I regularly ride (at an expert level, wink wink). My review will be focused on what to expect and what you should do if you are bringing along your wife or girlfriend (assuming she is a beginner/intermediate level rider) for a day of fun.

This is the trail to take her to. You'll have fun, you'll see some wild animals, she'll think you are awesome for taking her mountain biking. The only thing to watch out of is the "EKG" section... a lot of people get hurt here because they ride outside of their abilities. Not that this section is super technical, but it does get narrow and has turns and small mounds of dirt unlike the rest of the trail.
