This trail system is a Bend, OR, in miniature. There are 2 complete sections of the system. The south section is largely hand-built, with winding ascents and descents in desert-like terrain. There are a few rocky sections, lots of switchbacks, and some great side hill trails. One of the local riders directed me to the north section, where the serious action is. This climbs higher, and is extremely well-engineered. I just scratched the surface of the north trails. But I learned that there are over 100 bermed turns. Some serious work went into Susanville Ranch Park. When I asked the locals who did the work, they included: Lassen County, BLM, and labor from inmates at a nearby correctional facility. So how do you rate a first class trail system with a local ridership of only about 15... unbelievable!
