Trail Description
About this trail
The trails in Susanville Ranch Park are ideal for mountain biking, hiking, horseback riding, dog walking or a quiet stroll. There are many options for a variety of experiences. Trail users will find gentle grades around the meadows and up Paiute Creek Canyon, with more challenging climbs and features on Coyote Bluff and on the Horse Trail in the southern portion of the park. Several miles of narrow, challenging single track trails were constructed in May 2011 that join the Canyon Trail and Coyote Bluff Trail. Hikers will find easy climbing and dramatic views, while intermediate to advanced mountain bikers will be delighted by the undulating and meandering loops and "features".

Review: We didn't get to ride very much of this trail system do to some knee problems and lightening on 3 sides (yes it's raining in CA!!) but what we did was AWESOME! I can't wait to come back and do more of it. The coyote bluff area was perfect to me. It had some technical challenges on the up hills and really good flow on the descents. The views were splendid and the mix of wildflowers, trees and shrubs was amazing. Some key intersections had trail maps on posts which came in handy but many other intersections did not so I got a tad bit lost but you can't get really lost. There are some older wooden signs that helped a bit too. A really good map is available (we got ours at the Lassen County Chamber of Commerce office in Susanville). It is a very good map. It doesn't hurt that the people are so friendly around here.

Review: Totally impressed. As a Floridian that spent three months out west riding some popular trails that lived up to their reputations this place blew me away. Compares to Bend & Sisters, Oregon but better in many ways (construction, traffic). Good combination of climbs, rocks, cross country sections and descents.

Review: This trail system is a Bend, OR, in miniature. There are 2 complete sections of the system. The south section is largely hand-built, with winding ascents and descents in desert-like terrain. There are a few rocky sections, lots of switchbacks, and some great side hill trails. One of the local riders directed me to the north section, where the serious action is. This climbs higher, and is extremely well-engineered. I just scratched the surface of the north trails. But I learned that there are over 100 bermed turns. Some serious work went into Susanville Ranch Park. When I asked the locals who did the work, they included: Lassen County, BLM, and labor from inmates at a nearby correctional facility. So how do you rate a first class trail system with a local ridership of only about 15... unbelievable!
