Mountain Biking Mornington Peninsula

****   Add a review
#5 of 35 mountain bike trails in Australia
#6,037 in the world

From the trailhead at Pt Nepean National Park , you can ride along the double bike track to the tip of the peninsula at the heads to the bay . Tracking back east there are networks of singletracks & trails all along the back beach trails to Cape Schank . The trails can be loamy & a bit sandy at times , (its near the beach after all ) , however much of the trails are a mix of sandstone , top soil & gravel & dirt , making the trails challenging , with natural berms & jumps all along the way to Cape Schank from Portsea . Some of the singletracks come out at some pretty special beaches only really known to a bunch of locals , show respect & etiquette anywhere & mostly you shall never have a problem. It would be a full day trip riding from Portsea to Cape Schank & back again , so take a good hydration pack & some provisions. The trails are twisting & undulating through vast networks of ti tree forests & the trails are for walkers as well so always look out. There are a few general stores along the way where, if you take any of the roads onto the Melbourne road from the trails, you will always find your bearings . Parts of the Morninton Peninsula National Park were closed off for years to members of the public , the government & Parks Victoria have now opened up much more of this beautiful national park to the public, although always observe where there are preservation areas to protect the environment & local species of animals. Beware of snakes sunning themselves across the trails , especially in summer. Only a short drive away ( 30 mins ) is the newly opened Arthurs Seat Mountain Bike Park , with groomed trails recently built by Parks Victoria , offering a vast network of trails at the summit of Arthurs Seat . A highly recommended area for mountain biking .
