Trail Description
About this trail
On the east side of parking area, there is a warm-up loop that goes around the big field. On the west side, the main trail goes back along a resaca (ditch) - follow this all the way until it ends and that's where the main trail starts. There is nothing very technical in Brownsville, but the trails offer a fairly high speed course. There are a lot of tight switchbacks that you have to hammer the brakes going in to, then put the power down coming out of. The trails run mostly in the Mesquite trees, and there is usually a gulf breeze that offers some relief from the south Texas heat. A fantastic well maintained city park with a load of wildlife - birds, lizards and rabbits scatter the trail in the summer. If you come to the area, be sure to bring your bike!

Review: Signs could use some updates. Directions not clear to visitors. Not overly challenging, but a great place to work on flat corners and get some cardio in.

Review: This is a fast course, with some easy technical sections. Approximately 6.3 miles total, the trail head starts on the east side of the parking area and goes around the perimeter of the big field (Perimeter Loop). Climb up the canal bank and do canal drop, then ride ridge line to the left entry to the inner trail. You have the option to take "Easy Does It" to the left or "Pumbaa" to the right...Pumbaa is bit more technical with small dirt climbs and short drops. After Easy Does It, you will drop back in the dried up resaca bed in to "Blair Witch" and ride some tight single track through the mesquite. Come out and enter "3 Acre Loop" for some fast switchbacks along the resaca on your right. Next up will be "Dollywood", a short little section with a mini-ramp jump over a mesquite trunk. Take "Resaca Retreat" and avoid the falling apart wooden ramp on your left. Enter "Cactus Patch" and weave in and out of the turns ands switchbacks. From there, you will fly through "Shingletrack" then drop into "April Fools"..watch out for the quick climb up! After powering out, you will head into "Powerline" to get your breath before riding "Ridegline #2", then enter the final section - Serpentine. Great trail to ride any time of the day or night. Be sure to wear a helmet!

Review: I lived in Brownsville for two years, and this trail was a nice part of living there. It is mostly flat singletrack through mesquite and cactus with a few drops and minor technical features. When it is dry (most of the time) it is a hard packed clay that allows for quick corners and pretty good speed. It cannot be ridden wet (mud cakes wheels). Make sure you have slime, everything has thorns on it. There is a lot of wildlife spring through fall, lizards and rabbits will race you down the trail. I rate this trail high for smooth ride, interesting flora and fauna.
