Mont du Lac is a Ski Resort near the Mission Creek mtb trail and the Fond Du Lac campsite. The Resort offers one cross country trail and three downhill trails, all of which begin at the very top of the ski hill and run mostly on the back side of the hill from where you enter the resort area. They offer a shuttle to the top on Tuesdays and Sundays for a fee. If you want to ride there on a day they don't have the shuttle running, you can still access the trails but you'll have to bike up a very steep service road to the top of the hill. This is what I did with my two friends this July when visiting from out of town.
The cool thing about this resort is that outside of the shuttle fee, mountain biking is free! We simply had to sign a waiver and we were free to shred. Once we climbed the service road we took a quick breather before embarking on one of the downhill runs named "Torpedo." This run featured many jumps of various sizes and degrees of difficulty, as well as berms and a couple of hand-built wood features. The trail was badly in need of a manicure, however, as tall grass and weeds were starting to take over. That, along with below average signage and multiple intersections, made navigating the trail difficult for us who were unfamiliar with it. Once at the bottom of the run, we had to climb another different steep service road to get back to the other service road that would take us up the hill again. We decided to skip another trip to the top and headed back to the campsite.
-It is free to ride!
-Offers downhill trails with jumps and berm flow, minutes away from great single track at Mission Creek, making for good variety in the area.
-Very friendly and helpful staff
-Difficult to get to trail heads at the top of the hill, especially when shuttle service is not running.
-Overgrown and weedy
-Below average signage
