Mont du Lac is the only private land that COGGS helps manage trails on. For years COGGS was the sole maintainer of the trails at Mont du Lac, but in 2008 Larry Pulkrabek purchased Mont du Lac and hired Brad Miller to manage the mountain bike trails. Mont du Lac also has a tremendous disc golf course amongst the moutain bike trails.
As of 2012, Mont du Lac is free and open for mountain biking 7 days a week. They often run a shuttle service, which comes in handy once you've slogged up the service road to the top of the hill a few times where the singletrack and downhill trails start. Check out the COGGS calendar to see when the shuttle dates are.
The trail itself is classic rooty, up and down Midwest singletrack. To start your ride you pedal up the service road top of it and the singletrack starts right by the top of the chair lift. This gets you on a 4 mile loop that is easy to follow. The trail goes along streams, drainages, meadows and through a cedar grove, providing some of the best views of the St. Louis River Valley found anywhere. Most of the trail is intermediate in technical difficulty, but the elevation changes can be quite challenging cardiovascularly.
There are also two downhill trails, Torpedo and Big Bucks. These are intermediate to advanced level downhill trails with tabletop jumps and some steep descents
Mont du Lac opens up their bar on Tuesday nights for the COGGS Tuesday Night Ride and also league play for the disc golfers. They have food as well so there's always COGGS members hanging out afterwards and socializing.
