Trail Description
About this trail
The Lake Hood Trail is a shared use track - flat, wide and easy without technical features. It makes for good early morning wake up spin.

It's a popular Sunday family ride. Runners and walkers like it too. It goes down river for 8km where it meets Lake Hood. The lake is man-made with facilities for water skiing and rowing. It's not safe to swim in the lake or the river. (Really!!!)

You can ride around the lake to see how the other half lives before heading back for a pleasant ride of about 20km altogether.

Review: This trail is on the opposite bank of the river from the Ashburton River Trail. Choose this one if you want an easy wide flat trail without even minor challenges. The lake is quite picturesque and you might be lucky and see some water skiing action. The trail is in mainly the shade along the river bank but is out in the open around the lake.
