Trail Description
About this trail
Miles of soft dirt roads through southern Arizona terrain. Make your ride as short of long as desired by tackling tons of dirrent loop configurations. Tons of wildlife including jackrabbits, roadrunners, javelinas, deer, lizards, and snakes! Very excluded and desolate. Bring an extra tube or two if planning on doing some off track exploring. Recommend dropping a few psi also due to the softness and looseness of most of the roads. Alltitude here is a mile high in places so pace yourself and don't forget plenty of water.

Review: Parking at the trailhead I followed the initial singletrack that follows the road, but only last for a little under 2 miles. After that its all dirt road. I followed the road for another mile before turning around. I took the road back to the parking lot before turning around and heading back on the road to the singletrack entrance. The flow is defiantly better heading the other way. Remember you'll need access to FT Huachuca to access the trailhead. If you don't live on post or are close I wouldn't make the drive.

Review: Singletrack is short with little elevation change. Singletrack is mostly outlined by rocks keeping you on the track. Expect hikers along most of the trail. After a short time your forced to get onto the road. Road is pretty rocky in some spots but generally pretty easy to ride. It is a well traveled road so expect vehicle traffic from hikers and campers. Not bad views but not the best ride either.

Review: Across from the parking areas there is singletrack that runs along the road for a bit and then ends forcing you to take the fire road. The road runs South for miles. Mountains on both sides forces you to stay on the road.

Review: Miles and miles of easy dirt road riding, but let me throw out some advice;
1 - Always call Range Control (520.533.7102) and ask if there will be any activity on the range, on the day you are planning to ride. They will advise of any closures but always stay out of the impact area. The areas that are off limits will be marked.
2 - Obey all warning signs.
3 - Stay on roads and trails. Going off track is not a good way to remain in their good graces.
I rode this area for 2 1/2 hours and could have, literally, rode all day. Make sure you have plenty of water and maybe a cliff bar or two, and make morning or afternoon of it. One more thing; There are many porta-pots on the range, so you won't have to worry about running behind a mesquite for relief. I also want to clear up the directions. The road to the east range is just north of Hatfield (east gate access). There is a small parking area on the west side of Brainard, across the street from the East range access road. You can park there if they don't have the gate closed. If the gate is closed then there are several areas nearby that you can park at. (East Gate Shopette, Eifler Gym. Just to name a couple.)

Review: Just wanted to add that the total mileage can be anywhere from 0 upwards of 20+ miles depending on your route selection. Have fun and enjoy the ride!!
