Trail Description
About this trail
It used to be a motorcycle trail until it deteriorated too badly, then they handed it down to the mountain bikers. Since it is the ONLY trail of significant length in Baton Rouge (8-10 mi), it is overused and in pretty bad shape. It's hard dirt when its dry; mud & slime when its wet. LOTS of big holes and roots - I hope you have suspension! The Hooper rodetrails are actually maintained by BRAMBA (Baton Rouge Mountain Bike Association) members. They do a great job of maintenance and upgrading. The trails continue to grow and improve. While some are quite technical and challenging, they are rarely a mess. When they are dry, as they are this month, they're awesome. Contact: mailto:jpgagne@ix.netcom.com

Review: The first half of the trail had some really fun, difficult features and steep up and downs. Rode it twice because of the challenge. The second time I chose a different path and find the same gesture from the first time, but ridden backwards. So I took a wrong turn somewhere. I also found a trail posting that lead to nowhere along a smelly creek. I'll be back, it kicked my butt in places and I love the challenge.

Review: Good speed. But some wash outs made for some good wipe outs.

Review: It's a fun track. I ride it often but if it's wet don't ride it. It's super slick and full of mud. You won't have a good time. When it's dry it's fun I would recommend it to anyone.

Review: Enjoyable ride, easy bypass of the difficult sections if you choose. There is an easy connection from Comite if you know where you are going. Combine Hooper and Comite for a good day of riding, there is lots of roots and rocks, they add an additional element of difficulty to the ride

Review: Basicly started at hooper walking trailand ran to 'hard trailhell across canal, then back south towards lake?, then to comite connection (power line) , from here south, its 1/4 mile to hooper road and down to canal and over bridge. Very muddy, about 1 and 1/4 mi to (out ot ditch) and comite trail, then ran 2 mile to water station/ br. Then finished comite loop and back to canal etc, highline , then about 1.5 to 2.5 mile back to start point(dep on route.total (14-15 miles). Current access seems to be from hooper road park

Review: Quite technical and less flowing in comparison to nearby comite. Many roots make it bumpy and challenging at times, but it's still fun and a nice surprise for first timers riding in the area.

Review: Just re-rode this trail for the first time in years. Looks like they've renovated the system, added new signage, etc. The ride was surprisingly pleasant. Not quite as many ups and downs as Comite, but a great system to cruise through. I honestly didn't notice a quality difference between Hooper and Comite as of May 2012. If more people start going back to Hooper, we can keep both trail systems in great shape.

Review: If you haven't ridden this trail lately, come back and give it a try. New signage and re-routes have made the trail much easier to follow. More technical than the nearby Comite trails. Some sections appropriate for beginners. Other sections will surprise you for south Louisiana riding.

Review: This is a pretty nice trail which is somewhat overgrown in places and is washed out in other place. This trail is not as well marked as the Comite trail. If you can learn this trail, it can be a lot of fun.
