This is an easy, wide, gentle trail suitable for families and the Sunday cafe set. Quite a lot of it is coastal, and there are lots of points of interest along the way such as forests, green pastures, orchards, mountain views, beaches, estuaries, birds, craft shops, wineries, a brewery, restaurants and cafes.
It starts at the Nelson i-site (visitors centre) or at Nelson airport and goes along the coast to Richmond and on to Kaiteriteri via Rabbit Island. From there it goes inland, partly on country roads before circling back to Richmond.
The whole trail is 174km (108 miles) long but it's generally ridden in short leisurely sections combining gastronomy and pedalonomy.
The trail is very well serviced with a number of bike hire places, bike shops and shuttle operators. For maps, route details, photos and more check out the trail website: http://heartofbiking.org.nz/our-trails/tasmans-great-taste-trail/
