I took this trip as a paid downhill tour from one of the local shops. I was on a worn out downhill bike, but the guides were on hardtails with approx 100mm travel, so it can be done. I don't recall the trail, as there are multiple routes down. There were a few sections fun jumps and drops too.

From Chiang Mai, you'll head up the road towards Dui Suthep/Dui Pui. I'd suggest marking the location on a map, as cellular reception is poor/gone towards the top, and the trails are not marked.
