Mountain Biking Bolton Valley Resort

#147 of 147 mountain bike trails in Vermont
#37,591 in the world

Bolton Valley Resort sits just 30 minutes from Burlington in north central Vermont, offering lift-served downhill mountain biking that reopened in 2021 after a 10-year hiatus. The bike park's network of trails has a reputation for being raw, rowdy, and technical—terrain that's attracted the region's most skilled riders for years, even when they had to pedal up to access it. The resort now runs lift service to the top of Vista Peak, delivering over 900 feet of vertical descent across a mix of steep fall-line descents, modern flow trails, and tech lines. With help from Gravity Logic, Bolton has been expanding beyond its gnarly roots to include more beginner and intermediate options, though the upper mountain still caters primarily to advanced riders looking to progress their skills on challenging terrain.

The bike park currently features around two dozen downhill trails plus several climbing routes for those who prefer to earn their descents. Notable trails include Hydra and Outlaw—steep, old-school lines that rank among the most technical riding in Vermont—alongside newer additions like Vista Glades and Double Down, which offer more flow-oriented experiences. The resort also maintains beginner and intermediate loop trails near the sports center, along with a progression area for building skills. All trail access requires a paid ticket or pass, whether you're riding the lift or pedaling up. Bolton Valley hosts races, lessons, and camps throughout the summer season, and the base area offers bike rentals, a repair shop, and food options including The Mad Taco.
