Trail Description
About this trail
The Dothan Forever Wild Trails is part of the ongoing Alabama Forever Wild Land Trust, creating mountain biking and hiking trails throughout the state. The Leisure Services Department was heavily involved in spearheading the efforts to make the vision of the Trails a reality. It began with 40 acres of city-owned land inside the city limits near the old Beaver Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant. When Wells Fargo Bank added 60 nearby acres to the 40 already owned by the city, the vision to do something even bigger began to form. Eventually, about 400 acres were secured and submitted to Alabama 's Forever Wild program, which identifies land to be protected forever as a natural preserve. The beginner trail and pump track opened in 2015.

The rest of the trails opened on October 1, 2016 and are a 10 mile system consisting of six separate trail loops linked together by connectors/bridges. The Trails are accessed from 3 parking lots, one off of Flowers Chapel Road and two off of Fortner Street.

The trails are typically open from 6:30 am until dark unless they are undergoing maintenance.

Q: Is the walking trails open too -Guest

A: Yes. The biking and walking trail is the same trail. Multi-use. The recommendation is to walk counter-clockwise and riders ride clockwise in order to see and avoid each other.

Review: I had been told about these trails and wanted to check them out my next time through the area. what a pleasant surprise, especially for the terrain in the area. the trails are well maintained, flow very well and are well marked. This is a great trail to get a good cardio work out on and just enjoy riding a few miles. If your craving some air, or rock gardens its not your place.

Review: I was in Dothan for work, saw there was a trail system so I brought my bike. While I didn't get to ride the entire trail due to time, I have to say I left impressed. If you are looking for rock gardens, 4' drops, log jumping, etc. - this isn't your place. If you are looking for a fun ride, not too strenuous, lots of fun banked turns and just a nice ride - this is your place. Mostly flat, so beginners do not be afraid. A few rollers so you can do some pumping or jumping or manuals. There are enough 'downhills' that you can get zipping right along and make the most of the many banked turns and pump hills. One section, Dragon Tail, you ride between a twisty trail inside of a pine tree grove. It really was fun. Signage is good, not great. A couple of times I just ended up on a section of trail without knowing I started it. But you really can't get lost since it is all loops. If you keep making rights you will do the entire trail. So if you are in the area, check it out. It really is worth the ride.

Review: Most of the trails are intermediate or beginner. Excellent flow throughout the trails with some decent hills. Several trail heads with great accommodations. In my opinion, only two of the six trails were not were not a fun ride, but that's due to the level of intensity (easiest). Overall, an excellent place to have a fun ride by yourself, with friends, or with family.

Review: I was born and raised in Dothan. Moved away and visited recently. I was BLOWN away. Great trail system. Nothing too technical or difficult, just great trails. Plenty of mileage....great flow thru the woods. You can tell the IMBA had some involvement with design. Relatively flat but a few punchy type climbs. Great bridges built thru some swampland offering spectacular views. Nice clay base trails with some light sand offering several rollers/whoops with nice tight dirt berms. If you are a Dothan resident.....you should be very proud of this facility. Among the best in the state. This facility would be a PERFECT place to host a large MTB race. Color me impressed.

Review: Absolutely great trail. Lots of fun and expertly built. Previous reviews state that it is flat. While there certainly aren't significant climbs, it is not "flat" either. There are gentle uphills that feed to fast and flowy sections. This place is an XC's dream as you can go here and drop the hammer to get a great cardio workout. Its also a great place for young riders or folks just getting into the sport. I just wish there were some loops for medium and advanced riders, which may come in the future.

Review: Very nice trails! Easy to ride... tends to be a fast trail but not difficult to keep it to a manageable speed for beginners, like myself.

Review: For southern Alabama I'm impressed. In all there might be 8-10 miles of trails. They are relatively flat, no hard climbs and not a lot in terms of technical riding. Its a great place to be introduced to biking and even seasoned riders can have fun cruising around. The pump track is pretty fun also! It can get busy on the weekends with walkers. Sunday morning is the most quiet time to ride on the weekend.

Review: The city has certainly invested heavily in this purpose-built and well-designed mountain biking trail and boardwalks. Fast and fun undulations that are well signposted and ride well in any direction. The bike repair station at the start with tools and pump is a fantastic touch!
