Trail Description
About this trail
Description: There are two nice-and-narrow trails. The upper is probably best with hills, slopes, and several overlooks. Both routes get muddy and stay muddy until summer. The upper trail is over 7 miles and the lower trail is about 5 miles.

Bald Mountain Recreation Area has eight miles of trails in the north unit and seven miles in the south unit. They are mostly single track trails with great markings for location, they are directional in the north unit. There are a few considerable hills going both up and down throughout. Riders pass many ponds and a few streams while weaving through the rolling terrain. The usual rocks and ruts and ruts are present on all trails

Riding Hints:
In the south unit -- One preference is to follow the trail the way it is numbered. It is a loop and to start you go left at the forks following the intersection numbers in increasing order until you get to the outside of the loop. Then the ride back at the end can be pretty fast if you keep pedaling.

In the north unit -- These are directional so you have to follow the way the arrows go. A good ride is to start on the white trail and take the sledding hill loop that goes off of the white trail. It is the hilliest. It puts you back on the white trail and you then finish that trail. The orange loop starts where the white trail ends and that one too is up hill most of the first half but you are rewarded for the last half with speed almost all the way back.

Review: Very nice trails for the intermediate rider but still challenging for better riders also. Well marked with some nice flow.

Review: Good fun ride, I will call it a beginner plus due to being very root heavy but all-in-all a decent trail. I rode the north loop and it was a good brisk ride. Around the midpoint there is a low area that was still wet, I am not sure if it ever dries out, looking at how marshy it was around directly around it. It probably takes at least a week with no rain for this to be mostly dry.

Review: Rode today and would largely agree with the above description of the trails. They are multi-purpose trails for biking, hiking, cross country skiing, etc, so it isn't true singletrack riding. I was surprised by some of the reasonably steep climbs in the North section , good for building some endurance. Not a whole lot of technical stuff to be found, roots here and there and 1 logpile at the end of the orange loop. Biggest downside like the above description states = lots of unavoidable mud. Didn't ruin my ride, but just be prepared. Not a bad ride if you're in the area.

Review: Beautiful park with awesome scenic spots along the Northern Trail loops. The Northern trails (white/blue/orange) are comprised of great rolling hills that offer some challenging ups and some exhilarating downs and should be taken with caution by beginners. Typical rocky, rooty surface with occasional patches of sand along the wide trail with a few optional obstacles along the way. Great place overall, can be family friendly if taken slow, can be super fast and fun for intermediate riders and trails are easily connected to nearby Addison Oaks trails for an awesome two trail experience! Enjoy!

Review: Nice rice, easy and well maintained. Not really anything technical so good if you want to knock out 10 miles and get some cardio in.

Review: Not a technical trail at all... some decent climbs and still fun with some down hill action. Nice break from some of the more difficult trails around to work on cardio/endurance.

Review: The entire Bald Mountain bike offering is impressive. There is a south unit, a north unit, and tons of narrow trails that can be found off the Polly Ann Trail. The best overall ride is probably the orange loop in the north unit.

With that said, my favorite trails are probably the ones that begin to the east of the Polly Ann Trail as you ride just north of Scripps Road. Take the narrow trail to the power lines then ride east until you come to a big rock where there is a great trail through the woods on your left.

Overall, Bald Mountain has tons of rolling hills that makes biking here fun and the views are incredible with all the lakes.

Review: I would count this more as a running trail as other reviewers have stated, but it is very easy and allows you to keep a fast pace.If anything it would be a confidence booster to someone new to mountain biking. The only downside about the trails is that there are large mud sections that are almost unavoidable.
