I'd recommend a stumpy to anyone who rides like me. :)
Spec will definitely have a big leg up next time I'm shopping.
Pros Good at everything. I ride it hard, and don't spend much time fiddling with the bike.
I test rode a bunch of bikes. The Giant trance was close, but I picked up a demo stumpy for a nice discount.
The talas was a definite plus.
Cons The weak link is the stock dtswiss 420 wheels. I had the LBS rebuild the rear after repeatedly breaking spokes. It's been good ever since. I'm looking to replace the front.
I upgraded to WTB VelociRaptor tires and now it is the perfect bike!
Pros This bike does it all I am a better rider because of it! Excellent component mix. Shifts like a champ even on tough climbs thanks to the XTR rear derailleur. Suspension is a dream com true. Lock it out and climb like a beast. then open it up and fly back down. I ride on a pretty good variety of trails and this bike is a solid companion I love it!
Cons Price,I may not be able to retire as soon as I hoped but it's a small price to pay to ride this beautiful machine
Best value that I could find. I purchased for $1999, upgraded the Front DR to XT and shifters to XTR. Coming from a 04 Stumpjumper. Looked at a Fisher HiFi, FuelEX7. Most people will tell you that this bike is in between an XC/All Mountain. That makes the geometry unique, especially when paired with the Talas fork. Overall I felt this bike was the best bang for the buck. Outside of my mild daily ride, I have riden Rockville Park, Tamarancho and can say it was used to it's full potential...Kinda like a Honda VTech engine.....Great as a daily driver but floor it and it kicks into high gear!
Pros Good overall package, great value, ergonomics are great good fit (I'm 5'11 155lbs). Love the Talas front fork adjustable from 100-140mm. I use 100mm setting most of the time for daily XC rides. Bump to 140 for rocky downhills. Love the color.
Cons Dual link suspension clogs up in moderate to heavy mud more so than a single link. Routing of brake and rear DR cables are suspect, they are pushing away from the frame and have the potential to rub against the cranks. Probably a dealer assembly issue.
