Buy this bike for what it is, a beefy commuter bike. Any other use is risky.ProsIt's a fine commuter bike; just like it was designed for.ConsThis bike is marketed and designed to look like a mountain bike with shocks on front forks. Although it looks like a beefy MTB, it's not! Do not use this bike for any off-road use!! The manufacturer warning actually states this on the bike, yet people buy these types off bikes (Chinese made, mass produced under various brands) thinking they've bought a "mountain bike", albeit at a reasonable price, but they never check to see what these bikes were designed for. No real new mountain bike with decent components will be had for under $300, and that starts at entry level. This is a mountain bike site, and it should be incumbent upon the members and administrators to start to honestly warn people about the "fake mountain bike" market. I ride an '80s Cannondale, and l doubt that any of these bikes will be around 30 years from now except for those not ridden buried in the garage, or for sale in pawn shops for $25. I am a concerned rider of over 40 years on the road and trail who is just trying to get the truth out there.

You need to warn people that you are using a bike never designed for mountain and/or trail use. This is a Chinese made mass produced bike marketed under different brand names with a variety of componentry. It is not designed for or safe use for: STUNTS, JUMPING, COMPETITION, AND/OR OFF-ROAD USE. THIS BIKE IS NOT MOUNTAIN BIKE!!!! BEWARE, USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!! This doesn't mean it's a bad bike; it's just a commuter bike made to appear as a mountain bike and more versatile than a road bike when used AS DESIGNED!!

Highly recommend this bicycle, if you can find one in good condition. They were only made in 1990, and as mentioned above, many of these left the world years ago due to broken frames. Super fun bike. It is fast, quiet, lightweight, and just a super cool design.

    Pros
Bike is light, maneuverable, and fast. Good for light trail use as well as commuting, always a plus. Unique design and quality components make this a very fun ride. Internally routed cables make it sleek and quiet.

    Cons
Frames on these bikes are notorious for snapping at the head tube. Rigid front fork will absolutely wreck your forearms, wrists, and hands on any rough trails. Rim brakes are not the best, slowing from highspeeds during wet conditions is nothing less than terrifying.

I'm kind of new to the mtb world, and this was my first mtb. I think it's a piece of garbage can't wait to by another bike.

    Pros
Price, Aluminum can't rust, It's held up well so far I've owned it for a year. After the first year my crank makes terrible noises.

    Cons
The seat could be more comfortable, and the gears don't always shift well. The rims don't stay tru, and the brakes suck they don't stay well adjusted and drag all the time.

You did not get your first mountain bike; you got a commuter bike designed to look like a mountain bike. This bike is not designed, nor safe for off-road use. There is a manufacturer warning of any off-road use!!

I really like this bike and love the upgrades my brother-in-law had done to it (before he bought his Trek Police Bike). I would buy this from Wally World, then do a few minor upgrades to it when you have the time and money. Long story short: It's a sweet bike for the price!

    Pros
I can't complain... My Schwinn Aluminum Comp was *FREE* (my brother-in-law gave it to me). He had it upgraded with a new crank set, a better Shimano derailleur, and new brakes.

I like the lightweight feel of the Aluminum Comp. You can go anywhere on it with ease. It has smooth shifting, quick stopping, and a real nice balance.

    Cons
Nothing that I know of. Um, maybe due to it being lightweight aluminum, where you can whip it all around in and out of the trees on a singletrack run, it might not be the best bike to do log jumps and/or insane rock hopping stuff with.

You are using a bike that may function better due to aftermarket upgrades, but this does not upgrade the frame which is not designed for (as warned by the manufacturer) any off-road use, jumping, stunts, and/or competition!! People must be warned that they are buying a commuter bike that looks like a mountain bike, and is designed for safe use under those conditions only.

    I'd buy it again.

    Pros
Inexpensive, no frills bike. Great for beginning/intermediate rider. Also very durable! Mine has survived for 6 years now, many of which stored outside.

    Cons
Grip shifts are not my fave, but they do the job.
