I used to put my bike away when snow and ice came down, in Alaska that's a big part of the year. Since I discovered Nokian Extreme 396's I ride year round! Seriously, nothing stops me riding with these tires, they are magical with the amount of grip they give, it's like summer grip year round.
Pros Great on Ice and Snow,

You don't need a "fatbike" to enjoy winter riding!
Cons They aren't cheap but...these are great all winter! Keep in mind they are cheaper than a "fatbike" and I think better.
Comparative tests on the same roads show I'm more surefooted on ice and snow on my bike than I am with the Nokians on my car. If anybody is looking for winter tires- this is the one to get!
Pros Incredible grip at speed, in turns, all around awesome tire for winter riding. Will not slip or slide on hard packed snow (borderline ice) and with some gentle braking, will not slide out on ice either. Have only lost one of 294 studs, and I blame myself for that.
Cons The fact that they're a real pain to get on the rim.
