Got $550 to spend? If your LBS has a good sale or offer it might be worth a look. But keep an eye on those other budget 29er hardtails as well.
Disclaimer: I only rode this as a rental one-day in Italy.ProsCheap, sturdy, and stable riding. Can tackle gravel and uphills confidently.ConsYou get what you pay for--it's good bang for the buck, but it's heavy, and for somebody like myself who rides a lot of at bikes, it almost felt more in that category than in the 29er category at times (minus a little rolling resistance). Could not really shred or throw the bike around while riding.
