For my first "real" XC FS mountain bike, I'll give this four stars. Even though the frame is on the heavy side, I've found switching to a friends specialized for a few laps made it much easier. With that said, I use this bike as a trainer to build strength.

I finally ditched the rear coil shock for a Fox RP2. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! I would recommend this upgrade first and foremost. Next, I've purchased a 410mm x 30.9mm seat post to replace the small 300mm to give me the clearance from the BB so I can compensate for the 16" frame (I needed a 17, and DB only offers an 18 which was too big).

Eventually I'll replace the 3x chainring with a 1x, as I only use the middle chainring. Then maybe some hydraulic brakes and crank bros pedals.

In all, scanning eBay and Craigslist, I've been able to find parts much cheaper for upgrading this base model to the same equipment as the pro for MUCH less.

    Pros
    Great beginner FS bike
    Upgradability
Price (got mine from Amazon for $450)

    Cons
    Frame sizes 16-S 18-M 20-L
Standover height on my small is taller than most medium frames.
    Weight is beastly.
    Rear suspension is garbage.
