I had the early, 2011 model when Frank Stacy released it as the Bontrager 29-4. It's identical to the current XR4 29" x 2.30" tire. Excellent off-camber traction and telepathic control, over rocky technical climbs makes this tire a stellar performer. It even digs in deep, sandy washes with a degree of predictability. Run it as a a front, with Bontrager XR3 29" x 2.20 rear and you got a winning combo.

    ~ Enduro grip
    ~ Reinforced sidewalls
    ~ Decent 771g weight
~ Goes tubeless with floor pump
    ~ Rolls nicely

    ~ Pricey, at MSRP

I love these tires. Got them to replace my stock XR3s, and for what I am doing they are miles ahead. The heavier tread gives a lot more control and I no longer have to worry about slipping out on damp roots or rocks. These are great all around tires and especially going into the weathered off-season should be very nice to keep me pedaling.

Great grip, nice traction, very predictable handling in the dry, nice and stable and great control in the wet. Good for trail and all mountain.

A little heavy/slow rolling if you're doing cross country
