Model/Year: late 90's(took some time off)

Pros: great grip on soft surfaces, really never had any grip issues.

Cons: can get washed out on hard pack on rare occasions but its nitpicking.

Recommendation: Love Smokes. I run them front and back.I'll be sad if I can't find them when these wear out.

Model/Year: 2010

Pros: Crazy go grip, even on an old bike...

Cons: Getting hard to find the Classic reissues... :(

Recommendation: They even make a good front tire, I invert them from the back to oppose brake forces...

Pros: - super durable
- grips better than MANY more expensive tires
- super inexpensive
- its a classic for a reason

Cons: - become hard to find even online, Manf. stop making them?

Recommendation: use this tire on the back wheel with a Panaracer Dart in the front for a classic combination of awesomeness. I have had a pair of this duo last 3 season on two differant bikes and they still have tread on them. The Smoke has a much boxier tread patern than the picture currently shown.
This tire has never negatively impacted my ride!

Pros: Super light. Loves Colorado trails

Cons: Toss a lot of pebbles

Recommendation: I have been running smokes since 1993 and Smoke/Dart since shortly thereafter. For the price, durability, and weight there is nothing better! Now, I have more than a year of running them tubeless! Stans makes the lightest quality tire almost weightless!

Pros: The original downhill tire. On the FRONT on a slack head angle lots of trail bike they rail

Cons: not the smoothest rolling

Recommendation: I found them ok on the back. other tires are better but loved them on the front. wish they still made the 2.2 size

Pros: Great value, good performance, tried and true, Great for the all-around rider

Cons: I have noticed wear as mentioned...but I've had alot of miles out of them.

Recommendation: For the money, there is no better all-around tire. I've had $40+ tires before and they just weren't worth the money compared to what this reliable tire($10) offers for so many of the various conditions I encounter. They grab and hang on in turns, especially downhill when you're shifting weight in turns and they take alot of braking before they start to skid. I have heard alot about high rolling resistance with these tire, but I haven't experienced it.

Recommendation: I've been using the Smoke as a rear tire on and off for over 10 years now and have been very happy with it. Has excellent traction, and does alright, but not great, in mud. It does seem to wear quicker than normal. This is to be paired with the Panaracer Dart in the front, but I've known other riders who've been happy with a Smoke on both.
