Mountain Biking Aspen

****   Add a review
#890 of 1,430 mountain bike trails in Colorado
#9,764 in the world

If ridden clockwise, this trail (signed as Trail 21 on the ground) starts with a really nice 1.1 mi downhill heading northeast. However, after the trail turns south, you really pay a price. On the south bound portion of the trail, you encounter one ultra steep short uphill after another with a lot of hike-a-bike sections. The subsequent downhills are equally steep. The downhills are fun on the loose scree, but you're on the brakes a lot. Once the trail turns back to the northwest, it's about a 3/4 of mile climb back to School Pond Trail (Trail 2) with a hike-a-bike section in the beginning.

This trail is challenging. After the 1+ mile downhill to start, which is a lot of fun, there are several ultra steep short climbs followed by similarly steep short downhills - all on loose scree. Both would be challenging for a newer rider. The climb out to Lost Pond Trail is a bit of slug to end with.
