Mountain Biking Rock Pond
#887 of 1,426 mountain bike trails in Colorado
This double wide, scree trail runs southwest the first mile or so and then generally mostly northwest the next 1.5 mi. It descends pretty much the entire 2.5 mi until it ends at Rock Pond. Rock Pond is well-named with a beautiful large granite face forming the northeast shore. But what goes down must go up, and so it is with Rock Pond Trail. At Rock Pond you must turn around and pedal 2.5 mi back uphill. Actually, the grade is quite good throughout - a rarity in Mueller State Park. The payment for the 2.5 mi downhill run is not bad at all, and the forest is beautiful. Together, this makes for one of the best climbs in the region in my opinion. Great for a gravel bike. The trailhead is full of interesting information and displays of the region.

Follow the main road (Wapiti Road) through the park west for 1.5 miles to the Visitor Center and Rock Pond Trailhead which are both on your left. Lots of parking available. The trailhead has been moved to is the back/southeast end of the lot (opposite the Visitor Center) with a little realignment of the beginning of the trail. The trailhead is full of interesting information and displays of the region.
Fast downhill out. Reasonable climb back. Beautiful mixed conifer forest, and Rock Pond is beautiful also.
