So I have this older surly troll, I love the thing, but it’s in need of some TLC. It currently has a Deore XT groupset the chainrings are wore down and the cassette needs replacing. It’s currently set up as a 3×9, I’ve read all the positives of going to a 2×9 and I’m all for it. The short version here is there’s a guy selling a Shimano Sora groupset that is only missing 1 shifter, it’s a 2×9 set-up. Will that particular groupset swap out with my current one and can I still use the Deore shifters ?

I should add that I’d be using my current crankset and trying to put the Sora’s 30/46 chainrings. My apologies if I got any of the terminology wrong.

I would just swap out to a SRAM 1×12 instead.

Can’t recommend a 1X setup enough. One of the best inventions for MB.
