I’m headed up to Flowery Branch GA near Gainesville in about a week or so and was hoping to get a ride in while I’m up there. Since I’m only up there for a couple of days, I don’t plan on being able to travel further than an hour or so to get to trails. I’m not looking for anything specific, just a fun place to get out and ride. I saw that Chicopee woods was pretty close and looked like decent trails, but was wondering if there were any other nearby trails I was missing and should try instead. Fort Yargo is also pretty close. Thoughts?

I think you’ll be very happy with Chicopee Woods which is right in that area. Make sure to do the flying squirrel loop.

Chicopee is pretty fun. Tons of roots, so expect a bumpy ride. There are no sustained climbs, but there are tons of short, punchy ups.

Fort Yargo is good for going fast. There are very few roots and rocks apart from the Monster Mile. The rest of the trails are buff and fast. Even flatter than Chicopee.

If you want a “real” mountain bike ride, head up to Dahlonega and ride the trails at Bull and Jake Mountain.

Fantastic! Yeah, I was hoping to get to Bull and Jake Mountain on my next trip up, but wasn’t 100% sure if I could swing it this time or not.

Flowery Branch is practically 8-10 miles to Chicopee Woods Trails and as someone mentioned above, you will NOT be disappointed whatsoever. It has several trails to choose from. The only fun climb that is awesome to accomplish is on White Tail and it is called ChamPain Hill. When you reach the top there is a picnic table for you to pass out on! What is so good about Chicopee is that all of the trails interweave with one another so that you can catch many trails in 1 or 2 visits. Depending on the month, Chicopee is ranked as either the #1 or #2 MTB trail in the state of Georgia. And for good reason.

Jake and Bull mountain are also incredible trails but from someone who has ridden the trail about 3 times, it can suck an entire day from you just from the poor signage and trying to figure out where you are a good portion of the time. It’s got some of the best flows of any trails I’ve ridden to date but for the price of some of the climbs – it better! lol If you’re going to be in Flowery Branch, a drive to the north Georgia mountaing (Dahlonega) is a bit far for you to enjoy a  nice ride and then a drive back. IMO.

How was the ride?  Chicopee and Yargo are my regular, afterwork rides.   My favorite greater ATL system is Allatoona Creek though its up 75 instead of 85/985.
