I put on races for a "living" and spend a considerable amount of time and effort trying to convince local tourism agencies that my events have a significant impact on their success, and in turn, get them to provide me with financial support. Studies like this definitely help my cause, to show how, long term, and event can grow into a powerful economic driver.
