Ok, I’m new here everybody so hello! Back on topic, I started to take my bike apart yesterday for it’s monthly clean as I always have ever since I got it. I proceed to take the wheels, chain guard, pedals off etc. etc. I also took of the caging that hold my pulleys for my SRAM X7 derailleur like I always have. Heres the problem, and mind you this is the first time this has ever happened to me, I start to but my bike back together, when I put my rear wheel on I notice that the chain is VERY slack. Shifting also was flakey because of this. Like I said this is the first time this has happened for no reason and my chain had the perfect amount of tension prior to this. Would the L or H and B-screws help with this if I was to adjust them? Do I need to adjust the cable on my derailleur?

If you have a lot of slack and you are using the same length chain it is probably the spring inside of the derailleur. You took the entire cage off? Any reason for that?

Nope I never took the cage off. Only the housing that holds the two pulleys so I could lube the bearings.

Double-check the routing through the pulleys. It always looks weird to me when I put things back together–helps to have another bike nearby so you can compare.

just a thought, but It is sometimes possibe to have the "ear" that screws into the derailleur hangwer rotated beyond the stop. when that happens, the whole derailleur moves forward loosening the chain. Look at how the hanger is shaped and see if yout "B" screw actually is going against anything. You may need to loosen it, rotate is backward and re-tighten it after making sure that the stop screw is behing the ear.
