The Ardent is decent especially if you can get them at a good price, but there are better front and rear tires. The Ardent gets unpredictable when pushed to the limits of its cornering traction. We did a comparison of the Ardent versus other fast rolling tires (X-King, Rocket Ron) at: https://www.dirtmerchantbikes.com/special-events/2015/7/19/pacific-northwest-summer-2015-xc-tire-comparison-test
Here's my vote for trail riding and enduro racing: Maxxis DH-F front and DH-R rear with a Nobby Nic as an alternate rear tire choice if lower rolling resistance is important. Data and subjective evals are at: https://www.dirtmerchantbikes.com/special-events/2016/5/13/pacific-northwest-spring-2016-endurotrail-tire-test-hans-dampfnobby-nic-dh-fdh-r-butcherpurgatory
