The Niner WFO is Back… As an eMTB

Niner Bikes brings back the WFO as one of two new electric mountain bike offerings.

Niner Bikes dips the tires into some electrified water today, with two new eMTB models on offer. They’re bringing back the popular WFO name with a 180mm WFO e9, coil-sprung bike, and their ever popular RIP model also gains a 150mm e9 option. Each of the new bikes is powered by the 4th generation Bosch Performance Line CX drive systems. Niner says “These motors set the benchmark for fastest torque processing speed, durability, reliability, and a global service network. Paired with 625Wh batteries, they’re ready to offer up 85Nm of torque and roll on average 50mi (80km) between charges.”

The RIP e9 29er has 150mm of Horst Link CVA rear suspension, with a 160mm fork. Somehow the engineers squeezed a water bottle mount inside the front triangle despite the battery and low top tube taking up a lot of space. Both alloy frames are backed by the standard Niner lifetime warranty.

The RIP e9 has a flip chip that allows riders to adjust the head tube angle between 64.5° and 65°, seat tube between 76° and 76.6° (size large), and the BB drop shifts between 28 and 34mm. Reach measurements in the two positions move between 465mm and 470mm on the size large, and the chainstays are a constant 450mm across the board.

Batteries on both of the bikes are easily accessible from under the downtube, and both employ a Bosch Purion display that shows the rider their charging status, ride speed, mode, range, and distance.

The longer travel, 180mm WFO e9 from Niner has a 29″ front wheel and 27.5+ rear to soak up larger impacts without destroying the rim. This lanky park bike leans back into a 63.5° headtube angle in the low position, and 64° in high, with a 76° and 76.5° seat tube angle, and 14mm to 20mm bottom bracket drop respectively. The reach and chainstay measurements are the same on both bikes. Each of the alloy frames has internal cable routing, and rear brake mounts with room for a 203mm rotor.
