New Specialized Hotwalk Carbon is a $999 Balance Bike Designed for Tiny Trail Tamers with Huge MTB Dreams

That twinkle in your two-year-old’s eye says they’re poised for greatness, for a professional mountain bike racing career like your favorite shredders, Katy Curd and Loïc Bruni. While you would love for Jr. to be elected president, playing with the neighbor kids hasn’t gone well thus far, and crying is a tired debate tactic. Specialized has the perfect bike for your tiny trail tamer, called the Hotwalk, and now it comes in carbon.

Weighing a scant 4.63lbs the Carbon Hotwalk puts less stress on the scale than the tires from mom’s enduro sled, and at $999 it costs less than half the price of that big complicated rig.

Specialized says that they designed the little carbon bike to be as light as possible, with each component and angle modeled around child-size ergonomic needs. The carbon handlebar is thinner and kid-shoulder wide, and there’s a Body Geometry saddle to dial in that diaper position. The brand has yet to release a geometry table for this one-size-fits-small frame, and we will update that info if it becomes available.

Hotwalk Carbon builds include pneumatic, 12×2.0 tires and a set of carbon rims with twelve radial-laced spokes attached to narrow bolt-on hubs. There’s no internal or external cable routing nor bottom bracket to fuss with, and the internal headset should hold up through all of the neighbor’s kids after yours have moved on to a Stumpjumper.

Once your little shredder is bringing home a six figure racing salary they can use the Carbon Hotwalk as a centerpiece for all of their trophies.
