Orbea is known for designing baller bikes, wrapping carbon frames in top-shelf dream builds. The recently re-released Occam alloy and newly updated Laufey hardtail give riders on a budget the chance to experience what the Spanish brand has to offer.
Before sag, the Laufey’s geometry is the same as Orbea’s full suspension Occam, and every model comes with the longest dropper post possible for its given size. Paired with a 140mm fork, proper grip, and stock chain guide, this bike is poised to party.
Every angle on the Laufey moved in the fun direction on the 2020 model. The slacker headtube, longer reach, and stretched chainstay measurements will undoubtedly make the bike more stable when it’s pointed downslope, and its 2° steeper seat tube angle will help keep the front wheel planted during long ascents while pushing into the bike’s rigid rear end.
The top Laufey LTD build comes with a full Shimano drivetrain, Race Face cockpit, Fox 34 Performance fork, Orbea brand wheels and dropper post, and Maxxis rubber. Subsequent builds swap out the racy bits for slightly heavier components, like Sun Race cassettes and SLX derailleurs in place of XT, while remaining respectably sweet trail bikes at a reasonable price.
