Trail Description
About this trail
The Upper Russian River trail - a section of the original Resurrection trail - is a great day ride: 21 miles of single-track. The trail skirts the Harding Ice Field before dropping into the Russian River Valley. You will traverse a sub-alpine forest and fields of wildflowers, stop for lunch at mile twelve along the banks of the picturesque Upper Russian Lake.
Continue your descent into the Russian River Valley, an area that was decimated by a wildfire in 1969. Here you will encounter the natural and extraordinary process of reforestation: a majesty of new growth interspersed with scarred forest remains. At mile twenty, visit the Russian River Falls. Here, viewing decks allow an incredible view of sockeye salmon successfully ascending a series of forty-foot falls on their way to their instinctive spawning grounds. Review: I was in AK for an assignment and thought this would be a great way to see the country, stay in a national forest cabin and experience the outdoors. The idea that I would pull a cart with my sleeping gear was just plain dumb. The trail is overgrown in late July and bear scat is everywhere. Compared to riding the trails in Phoenix, this is easy. It is not material for a cart and camping gear. If you want to camp hike the trail. Be prepared to wade some water and be wowed by the vistas.

Review: Russian Lakes Trail is good in early summer, with a good trail, gradual climbs, and great views. Refrain from riding it later in the summer; it is doable, but the trail gets overgrown with plants that are hard to bike through, and prevent you from seeing obstacles. Overall it is a great ride.

Review: I rode this trail early this morning and it proved to be quite fun. It was quite wet and muddy and there has definitely been a lot of trail work done here this summer.

Review: I rode the first 6 miles of this trail on 7-27 where I ran into a trail crew that was clearing brush. Beyond that the trail was very overgrown and hard to navigate, with 20-something hours of daylight here in the summer mother nature takes back what was hers very rapidly. Give the trail crew another week to complete their work and this will be an awesome ride!
