Trail Description
About this trail
I've hiked and snowshoed up this before and I think I prefer those transportation methods to
biking it. We went up the east side where the trail was, for the most part, really soft sand. It
turned into hike-and-bike territory. A friend tried a trail on the other side of the butte. It has a
little less sand, but is pretty difficult to climb because of the step-like rocks. They said the trails
up in the caldera only took 15 minutes to ride. This is more of a recommendation to not ride the
trail than vice versa. There's a ton of prickly pear cactus up there just dying to put a hole in your
tire, to top it off.

Review: West side impossible to climb all the way up. mostly hiking, but fun to mess around up top, and hella fun climb down really step though.

Review: You've got to do some sand-hiking, but after the first little bit, the jeep trail turns into technical rocky climb. I actually picked the wrong place to turn off, though. The better trailhead is a little farther up the road and says "No Trespassing" all over the place. Later on, those trail signs become "No access to motorized vehicles" signs, so we figure we're okay. Still, you do have to do a bunch of hiking to get to the point where the trail becomes fun. It's a sandpit up there.

Review: Pain in the butte. I haven't tried the West side yet, though, so you never know
