Owlhead Mountain Bike Park is a new bike park located in the District of Sicamous, British Columbia — a small town of about 2,600 residents that's long been known as the Houseboat Capital of Canada. Despite its size, Sicamous is a major recreational destination, with over 1,000km (621mi) of shoreline along Shuswap and Mara Lakes. Mountain bike trails were notably absent from the area until Owlhead opened, and the district has big plans to make Sicamous a legitimate mountain bike destination.
Currently, the bike park features 4km (2.49mi) of trails, including a green climbing trail that's 2.8km (1.74mi) long and a blue downhill trail at 1.2km (0.75mi). The terrain here is steep and rocky — grades hit upwards of 60% in places, so expect tight, technical switchbacks on the climb (one section packs 11 switchbacks into just 700m). Phase two is in the works and will more than double the trail network, adding another 6km (3.73mi) that includes an extended green climbing trail, a blue jump line, and a black trail mixing XC and downhill riding.
With a trails master plan now in place proposing even more trails and connectivity, Sicamous is positioning itself as a stop worth making — not just a town riders pass through on their way to Revelstoke or Vernon.
