Mountain Biking Mt. Peg

*****   Add a review
#43 of 145 mountain bike trails in Vermont
#5,178 in the world

Mount Peg is an intricate network of trails spread along a steep hillside just outside downtown Woodstock, with about 15 miles of singletrack that's all killer, no filler. The system is split into several distinct sections, but the wide, smooth Village Trail provides the main access from town, leading riders to the North End — a machine-built, adaptive-friendly zone perfect for beginners — before the trails turn south toward the more historic, technical terrain. Most of the trails are specifically designed to offer enduro-style downhill, with multiple descents boasting 500 vertical feet that maximize the downhill as much as possible.

The tech trails — Trap Line, James Jungle, Schist Creek, and Hardstyle — deliver steep, fast descents with plenty of old-school root webs and narrow singletrack, making the most of the rock features found on the hillside. Wherever possible, the trails roll straight down exposed slabs or rugged rock fields, providing plenty of entertaining features to scope out and session. While most of the slabs are fairly short, one feature in particular descends some 50 feet or more. Schist Creek features some of the biggest rock rolls on the hillside, and I can confirm that those features are still plenty spicy.

When it comes to flow, Ridge Run, Cloud Drop, and Sir Bermsalot stand out. The bottom of Ridge Run features a mind-bending set of steep berms stacked one on top of the other, while Cloud Drop serves as a warm-up for the main event: Sir Bermsalot. By far the most popular trail in the system, Sir Bermsalot is a quintessential flow trail that packs in a little bit of everything. As I railed down the mountain, I spotted massive berms, mid-sized table tops, shark fins, hip transfers, berm transfers, big gaps, and more. Sir Bermsalot is so feature-rich that it's tough to enjoy it after just one run — your best bet is to lap it a few times to get a sense of how the features connect, and then really send it.

So i tacked these trails on to a ride at Okemo,
got up there after lunch and decided to bang around out of the lower parking lot past the Athletic center. Boy they got some nice trails in here! i had downloaded a trail map to my phone and rode sir berms-a-lot, cloud connector and redline. They are super Badass. There is alot more to this place that begs exploration, mediation and exhilation!
I will check back after another more lengthy visit...Good Stuff!
