Trail Description
About this trail
This is a small network of hiking trails where biking is allowed. The core of the network is the three mile Midland Loop. It is mostly easy to follow and has mileage markers with a picture of a train (in honor of the old Colorado Midland Railway) and distance (measured CCW) every quarter mile. The 0.5 mile Black Bear Trail departs Midland briefly and ducks in and out of granite formations creating coves as the water's edge. Black Bear will have multiple mandatory dismounts.
There are also two other side trails along the northern edge of the route, called Aspen and Ponderosa which are also more interesting than the straight Midland route. While mileages are measured CCW, much of the trail rides better CW. The trail accesses a number of backcountry (no car access) campsites in very attractive locations.

Review: I would not make a special trip for this trail, but if you're in the area for other reasons (camping, fishing), it's worth bringing the bike along and getting in a lap or two. If you're an advanced rider and/or don't mind walking a bit, I recommend taking the side trails rather than just sticking to the main Midland loop.
