Trail Description
About this trail
Bad Idea, as we dubbed it has about 16 miles and 4250ish feet of climb. The first few climbs are fairly popular and not really difficult. Connector, Crestline and Sidewinder are all pretty easy. Once you reach the Taco of Death its a different story! Very few can actually ride the taco and even they usually only make it in early spring when it's moist. The hill is really lose sand and fairly steep. Most tend to hike a bike through this section. Once at the top if the taco it's a steady grind up to Watchman which we all know and love as a great traverse without a ton of climbing. Enjoy the downhill on 5 Mile Gulch because it's short lived and after all the climbing you've done the climb from the road up Three Bears seems ruthless. Just keep in mind that once at the top of Three Bears it's almost all downhill back to the parking lot. Bring lots of water, tools and any spares you might need. At times you are quite a ways from service roads. Enjoy!

Review: This is a great loop. Challenging and picturesque. When you get to the end of Fat Tire Traverse is where it earns its name. #6 Femrite's Patrol is a multi-use trail and it is unclimbable for most of it. You spend most of time pushing your bike wishing that you brought some hiking boots. Once at the top where it meets watchman, it is so worth the decent. It's technical in parts and your face will hurt from smiling.

This will take you to the top of Shane's and from there you have several options back to parking lot. It took me about 2 1/2 hours to complete.

Review: Fun combination of trails linked together. Lots of climbing. Beautiful views of the valley. Big long downhill as a reward for all the climbing on the way up.
