On the bus ride home from Whistler’s first World Cup DH race, I overheard a couple discussing how “Adidas finally put the three stripes on their Five Ten Freeride shoes.” These folks caught the shoe brand’s soft launch, and you can bet we will see more stripes across the Adidas mountain line moving forward.

Adidas not only put three stripes on their iconic Freerider shoe, but they also updated the line throughout, with multiple levels to suit varied budgets and footwear preferences.
The Adidas Freerider refresh has sifted through a filter of professional athletes, including Danny McAskill, Vali Höll, Greg Minnaar, and others. The result is a tougher exterior, designed to hold up through the trials of modern mountain biking, while maintaining the classic Five Ten sole dots for grip that riders know and appreciate.

The Freerider goes clipless with Freerider Pro BOA Clipless
The new Freerider lineup features two Freerider Pro BOA models at the top. The regular Freerider Pro BOA features the brand’s classic flat pedal sole, while a new Freerider Pro BOA Clipless model brings cleats to the iconic mountain bike shoe. There’s also a plain vanilla Freerider with laces.
Notable updates include a stitched toe box that Adidas claims will hold fast through years of abuse. The toe feels sturdy, ready to whack with some sticks and stones. The developers added a guard ahead of the BOA dial for additional protection, and we all know BOA has a stellar warranty policy if you do manage to snap the dial.

Clipless riders will appreciate one of the longest cleat channels on the market, allowing for cleat placement from the toe to midfoot. The clipless shoe has a series of markings on the cleat channel, suggesting placement for XC, MTN, DH, and SEND.
Pricing for the updated Freerider shoes is as follows:
- Freerider: $120
- Freerider Pro BOA: $180
- Freerider Pro BOA Clipless: $250
Look for the new Freeriders on shelves and on the Adidas website on March 1, 2027.
