Mountain Biking Buzzard Butte

  Add a review
#214 of 321 mountain bike trails in Oregon
#16,085 in the world

Just south of Tillamook, the Buzzard Butte Trail Network is bringing legit mountain biking to the Oregon coast for the first time. Built on a butte in Oregon's coastal mountains near Pacific City, the system currently offers seven trails totaling 3-4 miles, centered on a zone called Whalen Knob where TORTA has constructed a progression-friendly lineup of flow trails that make it easy to level up your riding. The green-rated Greenhorn drops nearly 100 feet in just over a quarter mile, offering rollers and berms at a fast, approachable pace. From there, riders can step up to Dorsal — a blue with smaller tables and higher speeds — before graduating to Full Share, which leans closer to black territory with steeper lips and longer tables.

For those chasing bigger air, Sea Donkey is the trail that's been blowing up on social media, and for good reason. The black-diamond jump line clocks in at just a quarter mile and drops 100 feet, but the jumps are proper — no gaps, but don't come up short. On the techy side, Slammin' Salmon mixes roots and flow in a blue-rated package, while Rock Fish is a full send into rough, rooty coastal terrain complete with steep chutes and natural features. Everything is rollable, but roll with confidence.

The system also features an adaptive-friendly jump line roughly a mile long, designed with multiple line choices so you can lap it repeatedly and never hit the same features twice. A ridgeline trail above Whalen Knob adds over a mile of riding with phenomenal views and connects to newer zones still coming online. With trails shaped by pros like Carson Storch, Christian Rigal, and Cam McCaul, Buzzard Butte is punching well above its weight for a trail system still in its early chapters — and with a long-term vision of 35 miles spanning the Oregon coast, this is just the beginning.
