This morning we got to sit in on a press conference with Lance Armstrong following his official announcement yesterday about his return to cycling and the Tour de France in 2009. The press conference got off to a tense start as Greg LeMond, sitting front row, began asking questions about Lance’s self-imposed doping test regime – leading Lance to cut off LeMond and state “It’s time for everybody to move on.”

Aside from the drama, Armstrong talked about his decision to join Team Astana rather than start his own Livestrong Team. Lance said it was his loyalty to Trek and Johan Bruneel that ultimately convinced him to join the team, though he admitted there was some uncertainty about how team leader Alberto Contador felt about the move.

Lance also stated that he didn’t know how long he’d race but that it would be at least a year. He also mentioned that after his comeback he still plans to pursure “other endurance racing” – could this be mountain biking? After his successes at Leadville and Aspen I wouldn’t be surprised to see him on the trail…
