Want to guide a MTB tour of France? Not unless you’re French

posted July 18, 2007 by trek7k

A British mountain bike tour guide with Endless Ride was arrested for leading a group of British mountain bikers in the Morzine area without the proper “French qualification.” Apparently French guides in the area were upset about a British company advertising guide services in the area and potentially stealing business from the locals.

Of course tossing international visitors off your trails isn’t good for the old tourism biz (you know, hotels, restaurants, etc.) so the British companies may be able to get local business owners on their side. Meanwhile a small bike race is taking place in other parts of France right now that tends to generate decent business but I reckon that isn’t important in light of the British invasion of the MTB scene ;)
