Dangers of Mountain Biking in Canada

posted July 24, 2007 by trek7k

After hundreds of mountain bikers at the Test of Metal mountain bike race fell ill last month a doctor says race organizers should have cancelled the event.

“Our future advice to the race organizers is to inspect the route prior to the race to ensure it is not littered with animal feces, and not end the race at the horse ring. If there is any horse poop, they have to remove it.”

Sage advice indeed. I’d also add that riding wet trails is a bad idea and running a large race over wet trails is an even worse idea.

Also in Canada the body of a missing mountain biker was found Sunday near Invermere, BC, the victim of an apparent bear attack. Another mountain biking couple narrowly escaped attack by a grizzly bear in the same area the day before.
