Armstrong flakes on Leadville (again)

posted August 9, 2007 by trek7k

I really thought the news was too good to be true. A couple weeks ago we read that Lance Armstrong AND Floyd Landis would be racing in the Leadville 100 mountain bike race despite previous word of a “scheduling conflict.” Well, it looks like there’s no conflict now, but there’s also no Armstrong. Lance will be in Colorado Springs tonight to speak at a fundraiser but that’s it. Lance’s coach, Chris Carmichael WILL race at Leadville, maybe he’ll put the smack down on Floyd himself ;)

In other news, the deadline for comments on proposed mountain bike restrictions along the Continental Divide Trail has been extended.  About 2,000 mountain bikers have voiced their opinions so far but that’s pretty weak if you ask me. There are 35,000 registered members here on singletracks (5,300 in Colorado alone), if just 10% of us speak up we’ll have more than doubled that initial response.

What a HUGE disappointment!!! I was really looking forward to the Lance - Weins showdown, much less the Armstrong - Landis showdown… I wonder what the motivation for flaking is… perhaps too much hype? The fear of getting crushed by Weins?… or perhaps his bluffing to try and keep all the little Lance wanna-be’s out of town?..
