Powerful bike computer + GPS from Quarq

posted November 19, 2007 by trek7k

qranium.jpgHave you ever looked down at your GPS during a ride and thought to yourself, I need more data? If so, you might just want to update to the Qranium from Quarq. It’s a fully loaded cycling computer with GPS, wireless capabilities, 512Mb of internal memory and it runs the linux operating system. Sadly, though, the display is monochrome and the size appears to be  huge. Oh, and the price is a bit steep – just under $1,000 for the basic unit!

The Qranium includes ANT+Sport capabilities which is just a fancy way of saying “Garmin developed wireless accessory system.” It’s been called “Bluetooth for the bike” but honestly, why not just make it regular bluetooth so it’s compatible with everything else on the planet? Quarq also sells an ANT+ power meter you can attach to your crank that retails for $1,195. All this makes the Garmin Edge 705 look like a real bargain ;)
