If you’re like me you’re already starting to plan your summer MTB adventures and the Pass Portes du Soleil is definitely on my “wish list.” The Pass Portes du Soleil is a mountain bike tour around the Portes du Soleil area of the Alps with 3 different tour loops to chose from: 18 miles, 28 miles, and 47 miles. Registration is limited to 3,700 (!) riders so it’s a big mountain bike event to say the least. Routes take riders through France and Switzerland and make use of an extensive chair lift network to tackle the 3,000-7,400 foot peaks. A two-day mountain bike exhibition is also being held in Morzine, France in conjunction with the Pass Portes du Soleil June 27-28.

For those with the coin to blow on a trip to France you can also hang around after the Pass Portes du Soleil and catch the beginning of the Tour de France on July 4. This year’s start is in Monaco, a beautiful 5 and a half hour drive south of Morzine. Lovely.
