Description
These are very well maintained trails that have been routed to achieve longevity under heavy usage. Constant maintenance is being done, drainage and bridges built with indigenous plantings through out the park. The trails ranges from moist under the canopy of rain forest foliage to exposed ridge lines that get blasted by the southerlies.

Numerous routes to get to the summit, Koru, Sally Alley and Missing Link will get you to Aratihi and to the peak with the directional sign of the other great mountain biking areas of the world.

Many of these are one direction routes which have a variety of acumen required. Some descents are nothing less that full body armor elevator drops and others are awesome flowing switchbacks..as in North Face trail.

If you are in this part of NZ, you owe it to yourself to roll through there.

Mud Cycles in a few hundred meters up the Rd and have a plethora of mountain bikes you can rent, 29ers, FS etc...sufficiently spec'd to tackle what Makara has to offer
