Rear-view camera for your bike

posted December 21, 2007 by trek7k

Okay so this will probably appeal to roadies more than anyone else but Cervellum has a prototype for a rear-view video camera and handlebar display unit. Though the cam is way cooler than a handlebar mounted mirror or one of those helmet deals that put a mirror in front of one eye, it still seems a little out there. If you’re a slow rider you’ll always be able to see the hammerheads approaching you from behind so you can yield the trail or perhaps you could even mount it backward to use as a monitor for your helmet cam adventures (though the Cervellum system doesn’t seem to have any of its own built-in storage).

Of course I mentioned the possibility of a similar idea a few months back when discussing the wireless capabilities of the new Garmin Edge 705 GPS unit. Too bad Garmin didn’t go with Bluetooth for their wireless tech so you could hook a low-res bluetooth video camera to your color GPS - stop handlebar clutter before it’s out of control!
