The trail basically parallels the road into Cheyenne Canyon park. The ride is a little more than
3.5 miles one way and climbs about 600-700 feet. At the top, you can either jump onto Gold
Camp Road or continue to the paved road near Helen Hunt Falls. The trail has alot of gravel and
makes for a difficult climb (and descent as well). Lots of switchbacks, etc. Use this trail to make
a great loop with The Chutes.

I wouldn't ride this trail uphill. It's loads of fun going down - quite floaty on the loose gravel sections!
| ThankGreat trail that isn't too steep or technical but does have some loose sections. Awesome views the entire time. Starting from the bottom is a hard climb, hike a bike in some places. Some hikers but not as many as Barr trail. Has a few rocky parts but mostly loose singletrack and tight turns.
| ThankThe switchbacks can be a fun challenge (steep and deep loose scree), and below the switchbacks the trail gets pretty fast and playful. Just be careful not to kill any hikers because there are lots of them. Beautiful trail and area of course.
| ThankIt's short, steep, and loose but a decent connector trail if you're trying to put together a loop. Very difficult going up.
| ThankGreat trail. Over all it's a bit work getting up but it's worth it because you get the views and great downhill
| ThankI think this trail has a ton of potential but needs rerouting. It just doesn't capture the DH potential of Cheyenne Canyon.
| ThankThere are some good views off of this trail, but the deep, loose gravel keeps it from being all that much fun to ride. Sure, it's singletrack and it functions as a great connector, but it's nothing special.
| ThankGoing uphill at lower section can be annoying - no traction because grade is steep and soil is like kitty litter. Likewise going downhill is loose and can become dangerous very quickly, but fun. Dont go on weekends there are too many hikers.
| ThankDecided to ride Lower/Middle Columbine up to a the side trail that cuts out to Gold Camp just before Tunnel #1. Not a bad a climb although some of the gravel and incline gassed us out quick. Def more fun going downhill on this trail I'm sure. Headed over to ride the Chutes back to parking. Not a bad little ride.
| ThankLoose and gravelly at times but really fun/fast and if you like tokyo drifting the corners, it is a WHOLE lot of fun. Best after a rain or snow. Watch for uphill traffic!
| ThankGo up the paved road and ride Columbine down. Some loose, gravelly sections make this the preferred technique for me.
| ThankNot recommended as an uphill unless you're a glutton. In places, there is the worst of the decomposed Pikes Peak granite--aka bottomless gravel. Makes a great downhill leg after climbing the Chutes and Gold Camp Road. Some really fun singletrack, some of it through surprising thick, dark woods. There are a number of tight, steep switchbacks on which to practice your slow-speed maneuvering. There's also some great views of Cheyenne Canyon along the way.
| ThankGood to tral to ride because you can connect with so many other rides in this area. Most of this trail is solid with a few loose spots. Nothing technical, just good switchbacks and speed if desending. Several places to pull off with great views.
| ThankFun trail! Just right for a speedy descent, yet a little technical stuff and switchbacks here and there to make you pay attention. All in all, I had great time riding it.
| ThankGreat trail! Good for helping you master switchbacks. The trail actually made me like switchbacks more and more. Good trail to catch after Captain Jacks
| ThankThis is a great trail to work your switchbacks. It is a good trail for either up or down, although there WILL be hikers on it. I prefer to link it in with some other trails up top and ride it down.
| ThankNice trail with beautiful scenery in the middle of a canyon. Most of it is single track but not too steep. there are parts that become technical because of stairs in the trail, short, steep climbs with gravel, and larger climbs near the end of the trail at the upper part. Great fun ride with a range of difficulty depending on what parts of the trail you ride. A few runners and many hikers. I enjoyed riding this trail and would rate it as a 7.
| ThankI rode ths trail at the recommendation of a friend and found it to be a pleasure ... not at all technical other than some sharp swithbacks... I rode up the Chutes and along Gold Camp and down Cheyenne Canyon and then along Columbine... a few good climbs - though nothing too tough for very long. this is a solid workout ride and if you decide to push hard and the switchbacks will keep your head in the game. I'll be riding this much more often!
| ThankWe headed back down this time.... Gold Camp - Upper Columbine/Middle - Lower Columbine.
I have to say, going down was much more fun than up, and once you get into the groove of kicking your bike sideways for the switchbacks, it's pretty cool. Not really my normally preferred style of riding, but still fun. Once you cross Canyon Rd. at the bottom of Middle Columbine onto Lower, the trail becomes a lot straighter and the flow more controlled. I much prefer Lower Columbine to Captain Jack's & the higher trails.
| ThankPlus, once you get to the nature center at the bottom of the trail and you've not had enough, it's only about 1 mile back up Canyon Rd. to the trailhead again.
Uhhhgggg. I thought this trail was gonna kill me! Word of advice - don't party all night before goin on a bike ride. Spent half this ride thinking I was goin to blow chunks. A lot of people complain the Columbine Trail is to loose with gravel and dirt, and there are some bad spots, that's for sure. But that's all I thought it was - spots. Where a few times I had to walk my bike because the dirt was too loose, but other than that this was a great trail - assuming you like biking up hill the whole time. There is a great lookout with a small log bench near the top that is a great place to rest.
