What happens when you combine ultimate frisbee with mountain biking? You get MTBU, a franken-sport being played in grassy fields since it’s invention in 1990. I had personally never heard of it until I ran across the website today but apparently the “sport” has been featured in a number of the big mountain bike magazines over the years.

If you’ve ever played ultimate frisbee you know the rules – no running with the frisbee once you catch it. The rules have been adapted for mountain bikes and instead of requiring a quick stop after a catch, riders are allowed to “coast” (no pedaling). Players must pass the disc before putting a foot down making this a great way to hone your balancing skills.

This video show some guys playing MTBU on what appears to be a soccer field and I can’t imagine recreation departments being happy about tire ruts on their fields, but if you can find a place to play, game on!
